iOS 27.2 Siri Update: Memory of Past Chats, 5 New Languages, Excluded Apps and How to Use Them

9โ€“13 minutes

Apple released iOS 27.2 on 26 October 2026, and if you use the new Siri AI it’s the most important update since iOS 27 itself. Siri can now remember what you talked about last week, pull answers from more of your personal data, speak five more languages, and give you one clear list of apps it’s allowed to look into. This guide explains each Siri and Apple Intelligence change in 27.2, how to use it, which iPhones get it, and the other AI bits in the update, like Suggested Actions in Messages and SynthID labels for AI images.

TL;DR

  • Released: 26 October 2026. Update in Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Siri AI devices: iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and every iPhone 16 and 17 model (and newer).
  • Siri remembers past conversations, for example “which restaurant did you suggest last week?”
  • More personal context: photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history and Reading List.
  • New Siri AI languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, on top of English. Still not available in the EU or mainland China.
  • Excluded Apps: one list to stop Siri, Search and Suggestions reading chosen apps.
  • Also new: copy part of a Siri answer, Suggested Actions in Messages, SynthID labels for AI-made images.

What’s New for Siri in iOS 27.2

Feature What it does Where to find it
Conversation memory Siri can recall earlier chats and answer questions about them Just ask Siri
More personal context Answers can use photos in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history and Reading List Automatic
5 new languages French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Language
Excluded Apps One list of apps Siri, Search and Suggestions may not use Settings > Siri > Excluded Apps
Partial copy Select and copy only part of a Siri reply Touch and hold the reply text

None of this changes how Siri AI works underneath. Apple’s next-generation foundation models, built with Google’s Gemini technology under the deal announced in January 2026, still run on the iPhone where possible and on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for bigger requests. If you’re new to the iOS 27 Siri, start with my iOS 27 Apple Intelligence guide, then come back here.

Which iPhones Get It

iPhone iOS 27.2 Siri AI features
iPhone 17 family, iPhone Air, 17e, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo Yes Yes
iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 16e Yes Yes
iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max Yes Yes
iPhone 15 and 15 Plus Yes No (older Siri only)
iPhone 11 to 14, SE (2nd and 3rd gen) Yes No

Siri AI needs an A17 Pro chip or newer and enough RAM, so the cut-off is the same as for Apple Intelligence.

How to Update and Turn On Siri AI

  1. Back up your iPhone (Settings > your name > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now).
  2. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 27.2. Keep the phone on Wi-Fi and charging.
  3. After restarting, open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and make sure Apple Intelligence is on.
  4. Give it some time on Wi-Fi: updated on-device models download in the background.
  5. Check your Siri language matches your device language (see below).

Siri Remembers Past Conversations

Until now each Siri chat started fresh. In iOS 27.2 Siri can look back at earlier conversations, so you can ask things like:

  • “Which restaurant did you suggest last week?”
  • “What was that book you recommended on Sunday?”
  • “Remind me what we decided about the flight times yesterday.”

This works together with the Siri app’s conversation history, which syncs through iCloud. If you’d rather Siri didn’t keep a record, you can review and delete your history under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Siri & Dictation History.

My tip: when Siri gives you something useful (a recipe tweak, a gift idea), say “remember this” or simply refer back to it later by day and topic. The more specific you are (“last Tuesday”, “about the Lisbon trip”), the better it finds the right chat.

More Personal Context

Siri AI’s big trick is answering from your own data. iOS 27.2 adds more sources:

  • Photos attached in Messages: “What was the Wi-Fi password my brother sent as a photo?”
  • Calendar event attendees: “Who’s coming to Friday’s planning meeting?”
  • Voicemails: “Did the dentist leave a voicemail about my appointment?”
  • Safari history and Reading List (results reportedly improved): “Find that article about running shoes I read last week.”

Personal context is processed on your iPhone or in Private Cloud Compute, which Apple says doesn’t store your data. If there’s an app you don’t want included, use Excluded Apps.

New Siri Languages and How to Switch

Siri AI now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in addition to English. To use one:

  1. Open Settings > General > Language & Region and set your iPhone language (Siri AI works best when device and Siri languages match).
  2. Open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Language and choose the same language and variant (for example Spanish (Mexico) or Portuguese (Brazil)).
  3. Re-train “Siri” or “Hey Siri” when prompted.
  4. Wait for the language models to download on Wi-Fi.

Regional limit: Siri AI is still not available in the EU or mainland China. An iPhone bought and used in those regions keeps the older Siri, even in a supported language. Other Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools may still be available there.

Excluded Apps: Control What Siri Can See

Before 27.2, controlling which apps fed Siri meant going through each app’s Siri settings one by one. Now there’s a single list:

  1. Open Settings > Siri > Excluded Apps.
  2. Add apps you want kept out of Siri, Search and Suggestions, for example banking, health, a work chat app or a journal.
  3. Siri won’t use content from those apps for answers or actions, and they won’t appear in Suggestions.

This is the setting I’d set up first if you share your phone or keep sensitive work apps on it.

Copy part of a Siri answer

Touch and hold the text of a Siri reply and drag the handles to select only the part you need, such as an address or a code snippet, then tap Copy.

Other AI Changes in iOS 27.2

  • Suggested Actions in Messages: held back from the first iOS 27 release, these offer one-tap actions based on the conversation, like adding a dinner to Calendar or saving a Reminder. You can choose which kinds of suggestion appear in Messages settings.
  • SynthID labels: Photos and Image Playground can now help identify images created or edited with generative tools that carry Google’s SynthID watermark.
  • Call Context: Phone can remind you of a contact’s anniversary during a call if the date is saved in their contact card.
  • Delayed: the redesigned Health app was pulled from 27.2. Apple still plans to ship it later this year.

Non-AI highlights include Apple TV household profiles, Dual Capture in Group FaceTime, Multiview for live sports on iPhone, and Apple Pencil (USB-C) support on iPhone Duo.

15 Things to Try With the Updated Siri

  1. “What did you recommend for my sister’s birthday last week?”
  2. “Who’s invited to tomorrow’s 10 o’clock meeting?”
  3. “Play the voicemail from the garage.”
  4. “Find the photo of the parking ticket Sam sent me.”
  5. “Open the article about protein powder I saved to Reading List.”
  6. “Summarise what we talked about for the Goa trip.”
  7. “Add the dinner Priya mentioned to my calendar.”
  8. “Which websites about laptops did I look at yesterday?”
  9. “Compare the two hotels you suggested on Monday.”
  10. “Translate my last message to Marie into French.”
  11. “What time is the flight in the email from the airline?”
  12. “Remind me to call Mum when I leave work.”
  13. “Draft a reply to the last voicemail, saying I’ll call back at 6.”
  14. “What’s the address in the photo Ravi sent?”
  15. “Continue our conversation about the garden plan.”

Siri Feature Missing? Fixes

Siri doesn’t remember past conversations

Check you’re on iOS 27.2 (Settings > General > About), that Apple Intelligence is on, and that iCloud sync for Siri is enabled under Settings > your name > iCloud. Very old chats may have been deleted if you cleared Siri history.

My language isn’t offered for Siri AI

Make sure the device language is set to one of the supported languages and region variants, and that you aren’t in the EU or mainland China. Restart after changing language.

Excluded Apps setting not visible

Search “Excluded” in the Settings search bar. If it’s missing, your iPhone isn’t on 27.2 yet or doesn’t support Siri AI.

Siri can’t find a voicemail or Messages photo

Check that Phone and Messages aren’t in Excluded Apps and that their “Learn from this App” and “Use with Siri” options are on (Settings > Apps > Messages > Siri). New data can take a few hours to be indexed.

Update stuck or not appearing

Free at least 10 GB of storage, connect to Wi-Fi and power, and check Settings > General > Software Update again. Beta profiles can hide public releases; remove them under Beta Updates.

Final Thoughts

iOS 27.2 makes Siri AI feel much less forgetful. Conversation memory and the extra personal sources are the changes you’ll notice day to day, and Excluded Apps is the privacy control many people have been asking for since launch. If you’re on a supported iPhone, it’s worth updating now; just set up Excluded Apps the same day.
