Google now sells Gemini in five consumer tiers: Free, Google AI Plus ($4.99/month), Google AI Pro ($19.99/month), and two versions of Google AI Ultra ($99.99 and $199.99/month). Since Gemini 4 Argon reached paying users on October 13, 2026, the gap between plans matters more than ever, because Argon is not available on Free or Plus. Limits are also no longer simple message counts: every plan uses a compute allowance that refreshes every five hours up to a weekly cap. Here is what each plan includes, how the multipliers compare, and which one is actually worth paying for.
- Free: Gemini Flash-class models, limited Deep Research, 15 GB storage.
- AI Plus $4.99: about 2x Free usage, 400 GB storage, 200 Flow credits, family sharing. No Gemini 4 Argon.
- AI Pro $19.99: Gemini 4 Argon, about 4x Free, 5 TB, 1,000 Flow credits, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, higher Notebook, Antigravity and Jules limits. Best value for most people.
- AI Ultra 5x $99.99: 5x AI Pro usage, 20 TB, 10,000 Flow credits, YouTube Premium, Deep Think and agent features.
- AI Ultra 20x $199.99: 20x AI Pro usage, 30 TB, 25,000 Flow credits. Only for heavy daily power users.
Google AI Plans Compared (Table)
US monthly list prices, checked November 5, 2026. Prices and features vary by country, and Google often runs trials and student offers.
| Plan | Price | Gemini app models | Usage | Storage | Flow credits/mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Gemini Flash-class | Base | 15 GB | – |
| AI Plus | $4.99 | Gemini Flash, more 3.1 Pro | About 2x Free | 400 GB | 200 |
| AI Pro | $19.99 | Gemini 4 Argon, Flash | About 4x Free | 5 TB | 1,000 |
| AI Ultra 5x | $99.99 | Argon, 3.1 Pro, Flash, Deep Think | 5x AI Pro | 20 TB | 10,000 |
| AI Ultra 20x | $199.99 | Same as Ultra 5x | 20x AI Pro | 30 TB | 25,000 |
Sources disagree slightly on which Flash version each tier shows in the app (Gemini 3.6, 3.8 or Flash-Lite), because Google rolls models out gradually. The Argon line is consistent across sources: Pro and Ultra only.
How Gemini Usage Limits Work Now
Google does not publish a fixed number of prompts per plan. Usage is measured in compute, which depends on the model, the thinking level, the feature (Deep Research and video cost more) and how long the chat is. The allowance refreshes every five hours until you hit a weekly limit. The same system now applies in Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) and Antigravity.
- AI Plus gets about twice the Free allowance.
- AI Pro gets about four times Free.
- Ultra gets five or twenty times AI Pro, depending on the tier.
- Higher thinking levels on Argon use more of your allowance per message.
- Pro and Ultra can buy extra AI credits when they run out in some products.
Gemini Free
Free is genuinely useful for everyday questions, writing help, Gemini Live voice chats, Canvas, Gems and limited Deep Research. You do not get Gemini 4 Argon, and heavy users will hit the five-hour window. Storage stays at the standard 15 GB Google account allowance.
Google AI Plus
At $4.99, Plus is the cheap upgrade: roughly double the free allowance, more access to the older Gemini 3.1 Pro and Deep Research, Gmail proofreading, more image, music and video generation, multi-page reports, more Gemini Notebook sources (100 per notebook) and 400 GB of shared storage. You can share the plan with up to five family members, though storage is one shared pool. Its big limitation is the lack of Gemini 4 Argon.
Google AI Pro
Pro is the plan most people should consider. For $19.99 you get:
- Gemini 4 Argon, Google’s newest flagship, in the Gemini app.
- About 4x the free usage and expanded Deep Research.
- Gemini in Gmail, Docs and Sheets.
- Gemini Notebook with 300 sources per notebook and Cinematic Video Overviews (see my NotebookLM guide).
- Higher limits in AI Studio, Antigravity (including Claude models in Antigravity CLI), Jules and Android Studio.
- Flow video creation with 1,000 credits a month.
- 5 TB of storage, $10 a month in Google Cloud credits, YouTube Premium Lite where available and Google Home Premium Standard.
Note that AI Pro does not unlock Argon in Google AI Studio’s API; that is billed separately. Students can often get AI Pro free for a year through Google’s student offer, subject to eligibility.
Google AI Ultra (5x and 20x)
Ultra is built for people who live in Gemini all day or generate a lot of video:
- Usage: 5x or 20x AI Pro.
- Deep Think and higher Deep Research limits.
- Gemini Agent for eligible US accounts, plus Gemini Spark.
- The highest Antigravity, Jules and Flow limits (10,000 or 25,000 Flow credits), and Project Genie.
- YouTube Premium, 20 TB or 30 TB of storage, $40 a month in Google Cloud credits, and 1,000 or 2,000 Colab compute units.
One source lists the entry Ultra tier as “from $99.99” while others list both $99.99 (5x) and $199.99 (20x); check Google’s plan page in your region before buying.
What Developers Get
- Antigravity CLI and desktop: consumer access now runs through your Google AI plan, since Gemini CLI stopped serving personal accounts on June 18, 2026. Details in my Gemini CLI vs Antigravity CLI guide.
- API usage is separate. Gemini 4 Argon on the API costs $2 input and $10 output per million tokens until November 30, 2026, rising to $4 and $20 from December 1. See my Gemini API pricing guide.
- Cloud credits: $10 a month on Pro, $40 on Ultra, usable toward Google Cloud services.
Which Plan Should You Buy?
| You are… | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A casual user | Free | Flash models cover most everyday questions |
| Mostly need storage, light AI | AI Plus | 400 GB and 2x usage for $4.99 |
| A student, writer or office worker | AI Pro | Argon, Gemini in Docs/Gmail, 5 TB, strong Notebook |
| A developer on a budget | AI Pro | Antigravity limits, Jules, Claude models in agy, cloud credits |
| A video creator using Flow daily | AI Ultra 5x | 10,000 Flow credits and higher limits |
| Hitting Ultra 5x limits every week | AI Ultra 20x | Only then is $199.99 justified |
My take: AI Pro is the sweet spot. Argon plus 5 TB of storage and Workspace integration for $19.99 is strong value, especially if you already pay Google for storage. Ultra makes sense only if you can name the Ultra-only feature you need.
How It Compares With ChatGPT and Claude Plans
All three companies now cluster around the same price points: about $20 for the main plan and $100 to $200 for power tiers. Google’s edge is the bundle (storage, YouTube, Workspace); ChatGPT’s is its huge feature set and Codex; Claude’s is long-form writing and coding. Compare details in my ChatGPT plans guide, Claude plans guide and ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini vs Grok.
How to Subscribe, Share or Cancel a Google AI Plan
Google AI plans are sold through Google One, so most account changes happen there rather than inside the Gemini app. The menus move around now and then, so if a button below has a slightly different name, Google’s support pages are the place to confirm it.
Subscribe or upgrade
- Sign in with the personal Google Account you use for Gemini. Work and school accounts get Gemini through their organisation instead.
- Open one.google.com (or the upgrade prompt in the Gemini app) and compare the plans offered in your country.
- Pick AI Plus, AI Pro or AI Ultra, confirm the price and any trial terms, and pay with your Google payments method.
- Reload the Gemini app or website and check that the model menu now shows the models your plan includes, for example Gemini 4 Argon on Pro.
Share with family
- Go to g.co/YourFamily and create a family group, then invite up to five members.
- On one.google.com, open Settings and turn on Share Google One with family.
- Ask members to open Gemini with the same personal account they joined with.
Google’s family rules: the plan manager must be 18 or older, members must live in the same country, they need personal (not work or school) accounts, and someone who was in another family group in the past 12 months cannot join. Some benefits stay with the plan manager only, including the YouTube Premium Lite benefit, Google Colab, Google Developer Program premium and Google Store credit.
Cancel
- Android: open the Google One app, tap Menu, then Settings, then Cancel membership, and confirm.
- iPhone, if you subscribed through the App Store: open the App Store, tap your name, then Subscriptions, Google One, Cancel subscription.
- Before you cancel, check your storage. You keep benefits until the end of the billing cycle. After that each person drops to the free 15 GB, and if you are over it, Gmail stops sending and receiving, and Drive and Photos stop syncing.
Plan purchases are generally non-refundable, so if you only want to try Pro, set a reminder before the trial or billing date.
Troubleshooting: Common Problems and Fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Paid plan does not show in the Gemini app | You are signed in to Gemini with a different Google account from the one that holds the plan, or the app has not refreshed. | Check which account owns the plan on one.google.com, switch to that account in Gemini, then sign out and back in or reinstall the app. |
| Limits still feel like the free plan after paying | Wrong account, or you reached the five-hour or weekly compute cap, which every plan has. | Confirm the account first. If it is correct, wait for the window to refresh and use lower thinking levels for simple prompts. |
| Family member still sees Free | Family sharing is off, or the member is using a work or school account. | Turn on Share Google One with family and have them use the personal account that joined the group. |
| Student offer will not apply | Per Google’s help page, new student sign-ups are now US-only, need an 18+ verified student (via SheerID) on a personal account, and must go through Google Play. Family group members and partner subscriptions are not eligible. | Check each rule. If you uploaded proof of enrolment, manual review can take up to 48 hours, so watch your spam folder. A family member must leave the group, or the manager must cancel their plan, first. |
| Plan or price differs from this guide | Prices, plan names and features vary by country, and Google rolls features out gradually. | Use the prices shown on one.google.com for your country, and check that your Google payments profile lists the country you live in. |
| Argon missing in AI Studio despite paying for Pro | The consumer plan does not cover the API. | API use is billed separately; set up billing in AI Studio. |
